Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable teeth aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. The aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth, and each set is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next set in the series.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign treatment involves a series of clear plastic aligners that are worn over the teeth to gradually move them into a better alignment. Unlike regular braces, these clear aligner trays are removable and virtually invisible when worn. The aligners are also easily taken out for eating or cleaning the teeth. Best of all, because the aligners are virtually unnoticeable during treatment, people won’t even know they are wearing them!

The aligners work by applying consistent pressure to the teeth to encourage them to move into their proper position. Over time, the aligners will slowly shift your teeth into place until they have been shifted to their desired final placement. Periodic checkups with your dentist will be required to check on the progress and ensure that the treatment is working as it should.

Each set of aligners will be designed to be worn for two weeks at a time, during which time they will apply the appropriate amount of force to move your teeth further along in their correct position. Once the two weeks have ended, you will switch to the next set of aligners in the set and continue this process until the end of your treatment plan.

How Is the Treatment Carried Out?

First, we will take impressions of your teeth so we can create a digital rendering of what your smile will look like after treatment. Then, our doctors will create a treatment plan for you and go over all of the details so you can know what to expect from the process. Once you begin treatment, we will work with you to perfect your aligners.

Throughout the experience, you will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks at a time before moving on to the next set in the series. The number of sets will depend on your treatment plan. Each aligner will make slight adjustments to the position of your teeth in a precise manner so you can achieve the results you want as quickly as possible. As you progress through treatment, you will notice changes in the alignment of your teeth. The length of treatment will vary from person to person but is usually between six and nine months.__When you finish treatment; you will be left with a completely transformed smile! It is important to maintain good oral health habits during your treatment with consistent brushing and flossing at home as well as regular visits to our office to ensure everything is going smoothly. If you ever have any questions about Invisalign or any part of the treatment process, feel free to give us a call—we are happy to answer any questions you may have!

What Type of Orthodontic Problems Can Invisalign Correct?

Invisalign corrects a wide variety of issues. In fact, it can fix the same range of conditions as traditional metal braces, including crooked teeth, gaps, overbites, and underbites. It can also fix bite-related conditions such as TMJ disorder. However, one of the biggest benefits of Invisalign is that it offers patients a much more discreet treatment option than traditional braces. You can remove the aligners to eat, drink, brush, floss, and for special occasions such as weddings and proms. No one will ever know you are wearing your aligners unless you tell them yourself!
